A classic candle, once burned down, ends up in the bin with its jar. The refillable candle works differently: you keep the container, change the wick, top up the wax and start again. The sand candle is the simplest form of refillable candle. Here is how it works.
What is a refillable candle?
It is a candle whose wax and wick can be renewed without changing the container. With the sand candle, the wax comes as 100% plant-based candle sand: you pour it into a heat-resistant container, insert a wick, and the candle is ready in seconds.
How to refill it, step by step
- Let the candle cool after use.
- Lift the wick: the melted wax has formed a small cap around it.
- If there is still some wick under the cap, turn it over, put it back in the sand and light it again.
- If there is no wick left, don’t throw the cap away: crumble it and mix it into your candle sand, then insert a new wick without letting it touch the bottom, leaving about 5 mm showing.
- Top up with a little sand if needed and light it: your candle is as good as new, and nothing is wasted.
For wicks, the set of 20 wicks (€7.90) lets you refill your candles all year round.

How long does a sand candle last?
- 250 g of candle sand: up to 100 hours*.
- 500 g of candle sand: up to 200 hours*.
The burn time depends on the size of the container, the number of wicks and how long each burn lasts.
Why it is smarter than a classic candle
- You keep your container: a pretty bowl, a dish, one of our handmade concrete or glass containers. No need to buy a new jar for every candle.
- Always like new: no dripping, no “tunnel” in the middle of the candle, a neat look from the first day to the last.
- Change the mood whenever you like: new colour, new fragrance, new container.
- A controlled cost: the 500 g refill (€34.90) gives up to 200 hours of light*, about 17 cents per hour.
Which refill to choose?
The 250 g size (€19.90) suits a small container or trying a new colour. The 500 g size (€34.90) is better value per gram, for a large container or several candles. Nine colours are available. See the refills.
